There are a lot of things I sort of take for granted as being “obvious” about cats because I have known them so long, but now that I think about it, I realize I did learn this at some point.
There’s a lot that they don’t mention in the following article. Cats are very stoic and if your cat is yowling in pain, it is in severe pain. They often do not show signs of pain.
Unfortunately, this is a big part of the reason I did not know my cat Aslan was sick until it was too late.
One day, I found him hiding in the back of a closet he never used to go into. I knew it was bad. You see, an outdoor cat who is dying will usually leave you. He/she might go down to the end of your garden or into a nearby forest to die. I have read some explanations about why cats do this, but, bottom line — they do.
Indoor cats can’t leave, but they can go into the deepest, darkest closet and hope you do not find them.
