What do you do when a company asks you what your salary expectations are?
by Rachelle Megan
When a company asks what salary you expect, they are playing their cards close to their chest. After all, they could easily just be open about the salary range they are offering. If they are playing their cards close, why shouldn’t you do the same?
That is why this tip for what to do when a company asks your salary expectations this is that you answer by saying something like, “My expectation is that my salary would be within the range of the current market rate for someone of my skill set, education, and experience level.”
This is an honest and professional answer that will show that you are someone who knows how to communicate effectively while at the same time not revealing everything. There will be plenty of time for salary negotiation later. After they hire you :).
